Dr. William P. Magee, Jr. , DDS, MD, American plastic and craniofacial surgeon, founded Operation Smile in 1982, with his wife Kathleen S. Magee, BSN, M.Ed., MSW, and served as the organization's Chief Executive Officer. Operation Smile is a private, non-profit, private voluntary medical services organization that provides related reconstruction and health care operations for poor children and young adults in developing and US countries.
In addition to leading the organization as CEO, Magee also trains international doctors in craniofacial techniques through the Annual Doctor Training Program of Operation Smile. In 1999, Magees dreamed and launched World Journey of Hope '99, the largest surgical mission in history dedicated to correcting facial deformity among some of the world's most demanding children. The nine-week mission, the first of its kind, transformed the lives of more than 5,300 children and young adults in 17 developing countries and in 10 cities across the United States.
According to IRS Form 990 for 2012 Dr. Magee paid $ 355,685 in compensation that can be reported by Operation Smile, Inc. for the year ended June 30, 2013. Biography
Magee studied at a medical school at George Washington University and a dental school at the University of Maryland. After completing a general surgical residence at the University of Virginia, he came to EVMS for a plastic surgery alliance (EVMS no longer offered plastic surgery alliances). It is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and specializes in cleft lip, gap ceiling, craniofacial deformity, and hemangioma. She currently works at Princess King's Children's Hospital, and simultaneously runs her workout, Magee-Rosenblum Plastic Surgery, in Norfolk, Newport News, and Chesapeake, Virginia. Dr. Magee is also a professor at Eastern Virginia Medical School.
