Critical and public responses

Wesley Morris of The Boston Globe praised the first three X-Men movies as "more than a lavish-dazzling Hollywood franchise... three films of this sporting philosophy, ideas, tele- loads of causes, and our very elastic-versus-elegant allegory. "Morris praised X-Men: The Last Stand for" putting the heroes of a great summer blockbuster in a rare mortal position Realism at this time of year? How unorthodox! " Roger Ebert gave the films most positive reviews, but criticized them for the number of mutants, stating "their power is so diverse and unsuitable that it is difficult to keep them all on the same canvas."

The first two films are highly praised for their cerebral tones. However, when director Bryan Singer left the series, many criticized his successor, Brett Ratner. Colin Colvert of the Star Tribune felt "Singer's sensitivity to [discrimination themes] made the first two X-Men movies to be surprisingly resounding and compassionate for a comic-based summer extravaganza. Singer is adept at conjuring a large cast with a three-dimensional character, Ratner makes a shallow and unimaginative trial. "James Berardinelli feels," X-Men: The Last Stand is not as loud or satisfying as X- Men 2 , but it's better built and better than the original X-Men The quality difference between the three is small, however, despite the change of directors, it seems that there is one vision. "David Denby from The New Yorker praised Singer's "liquid beauty and Singer's poetic fantasy," but called Ratner's film "a crude synthesizer of comedy and action tropes." The third film of the singer in the series, X-Men: Days of Future Past is also highly praised. Alonso Duralde from The Wrap feels that "Singer keeps things moving fast enough so you can go along with a Superhero Stuff ride without getting stuck".

X-Men movies are well received by comic book fans, but there is criticism from big players, and the screentime is limited to all of them. Richard George of IGN praised the portrayals of Wolverine, Professor X, Magneto, Jean Gray, Storm, William Stryker, Mystique, Beast, and Nightcrawler; However, George thinks many of the younger X-Men characters, such as Rogue, Iceman, Pyro, and Kitty Pryde are "flawless teenagers [s]", and are disappointed with the Cyclops characterization. He observes filmmakers as "big fans of silent people", because of the small role of various evil mutants; such as Lady Deathstrike. Spider-Man director Sam Raimi says he is a fan of the series, especially the singer's films. Film historian Kim Newman also carefully comparing Batman Begins with Singer films. Critics also respond well to Deadpool and Logan . Logan received an Academy Award nomination for the Best Adaptation Scenario.
