Waxing is a form of semi-permanent hair removal that removes hair from the roots. New hair will not grow back in the wax area before for four to six weeks, although some people will start seeing regrowth in just a week because some of their hairs are in different hair growth cycles of humans. Almost every part of the body can be waxed, including eyebrows, face, pubic hair (called wax bikini), legs, arms, back, abdomen, knuckles and legs. There are many types of waxing that are suitable for removing unwanted hair.

Strip waxing (soft wax) is done by spreading thin wax on the skin. Fabric or paper strips are applied and pressed firmly, following strips to wax and wax onto the skin. The strip then quickly rips against the direction of hair growth, parallel to the skin to avoid trauma to the skin. It removes candles along with hair. There are various forms of waxing strips or soft waxing: heated, cold or pre-made strips. Unlike cold waxing, the heated wax spreads easily over the skin. The cold waxing is thicker, which makes it harder to spread smoothly on top of the skin. The pre-made strips come with wax on them, and they come in different sizes for different area usage.

Stripless wax (as opposed to wax strips), also referred to as hard wax, is applied rather thickly and without cloth or scrap of paper. The candle then hardened when cold, thus allowing easy removal by the therapist without the aid of a cloth. This waxing method is very beneficial for people who have sensitive skin. The stripless wax is not attached to the skin as is the wax strip, making it a good choice for sensitive skin because the finer hair is more easily removed because the hard wax wraps the hair as it hardens. The method of lightless waxing can also be less painful.

Contraindications

The following factors are known to make those waxes more susceptible to "removal of the skin," where the top layer of the skin is torn during waxing treatment:

  • Take blood-thinning medications;
  • Taking drugs for autoimmune diseases, including lupus;
  • Taking prednisone or steroids;
  • Psoriasis, eczema, or other chronic skin diseases;
  • Recent sunlight;
  • Recent surgery or reconstructive surgery;
  • Latest laser skin care;
  • Severe varicose veins;
  • Rosacea or highly sensitive skin;
  • History of fever or cold sores (waxing may cause flare-ups);
  • Using Trevino, Tazaronene, or other peeling agent;
  • Current surgical skin, microdermabrasion or chemical skin using glycolic, alpha hydroxy, salicylic acid, or other acid-based products.

There are many benefits to waxing compared to other forms of hair removal. This is an effective method to remove large amounts of hair at once. This is a long-term method, because the hair in the wax area will not grow back for two to eight weeks. When hair is shaved or removed with a hair removal cream, hair is removed on the surface rather than the root of the hair. Within a few days, hair can reappear on the surface. With this method, the hair tends to grow back with a rough stump. Repeatedly folded areas of wax for long periods often show a softer growth.

There are many disadvantages of waxing as well. Waxing can be painful when strips are removed from the skin. Although the pain is not durable, it can be intense, especially in sensitive areas. Another drawback of waxing is the cost: waxing is usually done by a licensed aesthetic expert and in some cases the cost can be high, depending on the wax area and the amount of sittings required. There are self-made waxing supplies, but they may be difficult to use on oneself in some areas of the body.

Another disadvantage of waxing is that some people experience inwardly growing hair, red bumps, and small bleeding. This is more likely to occur when the area of waxing with thick hair, especially the first few times when the strongest follicle.
