Lai Shi, China's Last Chief , also known as The Last Chief in China , is Hong Kong's 1988 historical film drama which was directed by Jacob Cheung in his directorial debut and starring Max Mok in the lead role of Liu Lai-shi. The film is based on Ni Kuang's novel about the Sun Yaoting eunuch.

Plot
Chaos during the Qing Dynasty, Liu Lai-shi (Max Mok) envied the glory of fellow townspeople and eunuch Siu-tak-cheung and asked his parents to be purified. Soon, the Qing dynasty collapsed, Liu failed to become the imperial eunuch and sent to Beijing to study opera. Later he met his childhood friend Chiu Tai (Irene Wan). Liu intends to live a normal family life, but can not do it after the identity of a eunuch exposed. The leader of the opera group (Sammo Hung) sympathizes with Liu's life experience and tries to organize it into the palace to become China's last eunuch. In 1924, Emperor Xuantong was expelled from the Forbidden City and Liu also began his wandering career.
