This season has an ad reduction of up to 30% by removing two ad breaks per episode to increase programming time. Episode 18 on April 15, 2017 is the first episode broadcast live in all four time zones in the contiguous United States. Until this episode, the show only aired live in the East and Central time zones, and recorded in the Mountain and Pacific time zone.

Before the start of the season, Taran Killam, Jay Pharoah, and Jon Rudnitsky were released from the players.
