Secret Phone Codes: Vertical Service Codes - YouTube

The vertical services code ( VSC ) is the sequence of digits and numbers (*) and a numbered sign (#) called on the phone keypad or play button to enable or disable the phone service feature certain. Some vertical service codes require dialing a phone number after the code sequence. On a touch tone phone, the code usually starts with a star button, generating a commonly used name star code . On a rotary call phone, the star is replaced by a 11 call.

In a North American phone, VSC is developed by AT & amp; T Corp. as Local Area Signaling Services ( CLASS or LASS ) in the 1960s and 70s. Their use became common throughout the 1990s and eventually became a recognized standard. Like CLASS are brands of AT & amp; T, the term vertical service code was adopted by the North American Numbering Administration Administration. The use of verticals is a somewhat dated reference to older transfer methods and the fact that these services are accessible only by local phone subscribers, up ( vertically ) within the local headquarters instead of going out ( horizontally ) to another phone company.
