Plot

After breaking up with his girlfriend, Ben, Michelle goes from New Orleans. While in the rural Louisiana, he heard stories about blackouts in several major cities before he was overtaken by a truck and thrown off the road, fainting.

Michelle awakens in a locked room inside an underground bunker, her injuries tending. Howard, the bunker owner, tells him that he took him there for his protection, claiming that the outside air has been poisoned by nuclear fall or chemicals of unknown power. Michelle was initially hostile towards Howard, but once she was calm, Howard took her on a complete bunker tour, and met Emmett, another victim who found a way for it. Howard took him to the bunker exit point of view, showing two dead pigs outside as evidence of his downfall; Michelle also sees Howard's truck, and recognizes it from the accident. Michelle personally expressed her concern about Howard's motivation to Emmett.

During their first dinner together, Michelle secretly grabs Howard's key and walks to the hold, but when she opens it, a woman, Leslie, is covered in skin lesions, slams into the window asking her to be let in, then collapses.. Michelle openly returns the key and agrees that Howard is right. Howard admitted to accidentally hitting his car in a panic to get to the shelter.

While her third relationship became more relaxed, Howard still showed intolerance towards Emmett and treated Michelle as a little girl; however, Howard opens up about his daughter whom he declares "not with us anymore". Howard enlists Michelle to repair the air filtration unit when it fails because she is small enough to enter through the vent; while fixing it, he found a locked roof window, with the word "HELP" etched into the glass and visible to anyone outside. The more suspicious of Howard, Michelle and Emmett finds out that the princess that Howard recognized was a young girl who lost about two years earlier, and they suspect he kidnapped her to a bunker. They make plans to escape from the bunker, creating an emergency Hazmat suit behind Howard's back. When Howard finds his tools and parts missing, he accuses the two of stealing, threatening to immerse them in a barrel of perchloric acid. When Emmett is fully responsible, Howard coldly kills Emmett with a gun. In surprise, Michelle desperately makes the last preparation to leave, when she is surprised by Howard. He managed to escape from her with the suit. On the way, he tapped the acid barrel, burned Howard, and lit an electric fire in the bunker.

Michelle wore a suit and fled from the burning bunker to Howard's home. Seeing the signs of wildlife life, he took off the suit jacket, but then he suddenly spotted a gigantic biomechanical space alien craft, pulled by a bunker fire. A four-legged creature got off the plane and chased after Michelle, forcing her to hide in a warehouse. He then ran toward the farmhouse, but the plane appeared and pulled out the green gas that forced Michelle back into her suit. The delay allowed a mechanical complement of the ship to catch him, but he was able to make Molotov cocktails from goods in Howard's truck to be dumped on board. The ball caused the appeal to drop it, and he was able to pick up a dead woman's car and run away.

As he approached the Texas border, he heard a radio chat instructing every survivor to go to Baton Rouge to flee, but also enlist the help of a able-bodied man in Houston. At the intersection, he paused before driving to Houston. In the distance, a larger alien craft can be seen in the sky.

Production

Development

10 Cloverfield Lane comes from the "very low budget" specification script written by Josh Campbell and Matt Stuecken, titled The Cellar . The Tracking Board includes a script in the "Hit List" of 2012 - a list of script writings published annually written in years that have impressed voting members. In 2012, Paramount Pictures purchased the script and embarked on further development under Bad Robot Productions for Insurge Pictures, Paramount's special label for movies on a micro-budget. When Bad Robot became involved, the movie was codenamed Valencia to keep precise details of the secret production.

Damien Chazelle was brought in to rewrite Campbell and Stuecken's designs and direct the movie. Chazelle came out of directing when his Whiplash project received funding. On April 3, 2014, reported production for Valencia was lit with green to begin in fall 2014, under the direction of Dan Trachtenberg with the latest draft written by Daniel Casey unrecognized. A budget of about $ 5 million is reported to be expected, in line with the mandate of Paramount's Insurge division to produce micro-budgeted films.

On July 8, 2014, Variety reported John Goodman was negotiating to star in the film. On August 25, 2014, they reported Mary Elizabeth Winstead had entered the negotiations, and on September 22, 2014, John Gallagher Jr. reportedly joined the cast.

During production, filmmakers saw the core similarity with Cloverfield, and decided to create an image called Abrams as the "blood relative" or "spiritual successor" of the film. "That spirit, the genre, the heart, the fear factor, the comedy factor, the oddity factor, there are so many elements that feel like DNA from this story is from the same place that Cloverfield was born from," said Abrams. In another interview he explained: "The character and the monster [of Cloverfield ] are not in this movie, but there are other characters and other monsters," and "This movie is so deliberately not called Cloverfield 2 , because it is not Cloverfield 2 , [...] So if you approach it as a literal sequel, you'll be surprised at what this movie is, but though that's not what you expect from a movie that has a name Cloverfield in it, I think you will find that you will understand the relationship when you see it all. "Winstead and Gallagher mentioned that during the production they realized that the film had thematic similarities with Cloverfield >, but not knowing that there will be an official connection until they are notified of the selected title, just days before the trailer launch. Abrams came up with the title after completing Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

In a March 2015 interview, a few months after production was wrapped up, Winstead was asked about his experience during Valencia and described it as a "real movie", repeating The Cellar's premise of a trapped woman with his mysterious savior in the post-nuclear fall of the world. Later in the month, Insurge Pictures is reported to have been dismantled and its staff absorbed by its parent company. The only unreleased Insurge film reported is Valencia . Speaking of rewrites that occur during production, Winstead calls them "nothing great".

During an interview with Abrams to promote 10 Cloverfield Lane, he said the creative team behind the original had some ideas for developing Cloverfield 2 but released a movie like Godzilla and Pacific Rim lead them to abandon them when they discover the concept of the movie being played.

Future

After initially planning the film as a direct sequel to Cloverfield, Abrams suggested that he had thought of something that if they were lucky enough to get it made "can be so cool that it connects some stories" in the third movie, even tease the larger Cloverfield universe.
