200 Pounds Beauty (Hangul: Ã, ????? ; RR: Minyeoneun Goerowo Beauty is pain is a 2006 South Korean romantic comedy film written and directed by Kim Yong-hwa. It is based on Japanese manga Kanna's Big Success! ( ??????????! , Kanna-san Daiseikou Desu! ) by Yumiko Suzuki about an overweight ghost singer undergoing intensive plastic surgery to become a pop sensation.
The film was a critical and commercial success. This is the third best-selling domestic film of 2006 with 6,619,498 national revenue, best-selling US $ 42,013,016 . 200 Pounds Beauty also received several awards and nominations, including Best Actress for Kim Ah-joong at the 2007 Grand Bell Awards.

Plot
Hanna Kang is a sex-loving part-time sex worker and ghost singer for Ammy, a popular pop singer who is actually lip syncs rather than famous for her own vocal talent. In addition, Hanna has a great crush on Sang-jun who is the director and his arrogant father owns an entertainment company. One day, Ammy deliberately insults Hanna's weight in front of Sang-jun during her birthday party, knowing well that Hanna loves her. Weeping in the restroom, Hanna overhears Sang-jun telling Ammy that even though they only use Hanna for her voice, they should be kind to her so she will not walk out on them. Heartbroken, Hanna tried to kill herself but was bothered by a phone call from one of her cell phone customers who was the top plastic surgeon. She persuades him to perform a head-to-toe plastic surgery on him. Hanna put himself in exile for a year as he recovers from changes from surgery and weight loss.
When he returns from the hospital, Hanna is very pretty and slim, even his best friend Jung-min can not recognize him at first. With Jung-min's help, Hanna creates a new identity for herself; he is now a Korean-American from California named Jenny. After auditioning into Ammy's secret vocalist again, he gets his own recording contract instead of Sang-jun, claiming that he is "natural". Meanwhile, Ammy desperately tries to find Hanna by spending time with Hanna's father who is in hospital due to a mental problem, possibly Alzheimer's. Sang-jun orders Ammy to release his quest for Hanna and give Jenny a chance to help her finish her album. Ammy refuses for fear of possible competition for album sales with Jenny and is determined to find Hanna because she will return to him as usual. After many meetings with Jenny, they both realize that Jenny is actually Hanna.
Jenny's debut single "Maria" became a hit and at the party to celebrate, Ammy took Hanna's father in an attempt to blow up the cover. Desperate to keep his true identity as a secret, Hanna ignores his father. Jung-min gets mad about his nonchalant behavior. After the party, Sang-jun reveals to Jenny that she knows her true identity but is now cold and distant. She apparently could not forgive him for lying to him but said that she would perform her concert scheduled the next day. Hanna also confessed her love for her that made her do such a thing. After realizing how insignificant he was to her even as Jenny, Hanna tearfully refused to have anything to do with him and left. When she tells the plastic surgeon about it, she makes Hanna realize that she's better off without Sang-jun. Before the concert, Ammy threatens Sang-jun that he will reveal Jenny's scam if the concert was not canceled. Even his father agrees and confronts Sang-jun for fraud after being sent a photo by Ammy. He ordered the release of the X-Rated Hanna CD cover and the concert stop, not wanting to lose money. Sang-jun stands up against his threat and orders his father by refusing to cancel it. Sang-jun encourages a confused Hanna to perform this concert, not for the sake of the fans or the company, but for himself. At the concert, Hanna went on with tears to tell the crowd her story: that she was a ghost singer for the ungrateful Ammy when she was overweight, how she went into exile to heal from a change from surgery and that she had leaving everything he loved, including his best friend and father, to get where he was. Sang-jun plays old Hanna footage, overweight, singing. The crowd, moved by his sincere confession, responded by saying "It's OK". Hanna rekindled her relationship with her father and best friend. She drops Jenny's stage name and re-releases the CD with her own name, Hanna, and becomes a very successful musical artist. Despite having moved away from his crush on him, Sang-jun realizes the very thing about Hanna that always attracts him is Hanna innocent, and continues to promote it. It's also implied without the support fans and the exposure of the lack of singing voice, Ammy has faded into obscurity.
During post credits, Jung-min also asks to get plastic surgery from the surgeon head to foot.

The title track is a cover of Blondie's song "Mary," sung in Korea by movie star, Kim Ah-joong.
Director Kim Yong-hwa has been friends with music director Lee Jae-hak since their college days. Lee is a member of the modern rock band Loveholic, which is also featured on the soundtrack.
