Casting starts on the eleventh season of The Bachelorette . A few days before the official announcement, Fletcher's colleagues The 20 season contestants and second runner-up Caila Quinn were initially selected to be the lead roles, but he was dropped at the last minute for Fletcher by the producers in response to Fletcher's popularity.
The filming began on March 16, 2016 shortly after the twentieth season of The Bachelor . The goals include Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania, Uruguay, Thailand, and Argentina with appearances from Dan Shay, All-4-One, Max Kellerman and Marcellus Wiley.
The players include former American football midfielder Jordan Rodgers, the sibling of Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers.

Christian Bishop, Chad Johnson, Daniel Maguire, Evan Bass, Grant Kemp, Vinny Venteria and Wells Adams were all selected for the third season of Bachelor in Paradise. Johnson was removed from the show by Chris Harrison in episode 1 for aggressive behavior towards everyone. Neither Bishop, Venteria, Maguire, nor Adams found love. Bass and Kemp were engaged to Bachelor Nation alumni, Carly Waddell and Lace Morris, respectively. Kemp and Morris broke up shortly after the end of the season. Bass and Waddell were married in the fourth season of Bachelor in Paradise.

Venteria and Maguire competed in the fourth season Bachelor in Paradise . They joined the team's first return, Nick Benvenutti, Alex Woytkiw, Derek Peth, and Robby Hayes. Adams also returned in this season as the hotel bartender replaced Jorge Moreno. Woytkiw, Benvenutti, and Venteria were all eliminated in the first week. Hayes stopped in the fourth week. Maguire went in a relationship with Lacey Mark, but it was revealed at a special reunion that they had split up shortly afterwards. Peth went into a relationship with Taylor Nolan, and both were involved in the special reunion.
