Storylines

Jackson Avery (played by Jesse Williams) is the grandson of Harper Avery, one of the country's most renowned surgeons and the namesake of the prestigious Harper Avery Award. The younger Avery grew to hear at his grandfather's table of nobles becoming a surgeon, who inspired him to pursue that career. His father "ran to God knowing where because he could not bear the pressure of being Avery", and his mother, Catherine, raised her alone. He said that, among his brothers, he was identified as "just a beautiful" and they never pushed him academically, so he pushed himself. Jackson was originally a surgical resident at Mercy West Hospital. Together with April Kepner (Sarah Drew), Reed Adamson (Nora Zehetner), and Charles Percy (Robert Baker), he joined the staff at Seattle Grace Mercy West after the institutions were merged. Harper Avery, her grandfather, was affiliated with Harvard and had to be hospitalized; during this period, he tried to convince his grandson to move to Massachusetts General Hospital, which he could organize, but the younger Avery refused.

As a result of the mass shootings at SGMW, where 11 people were killed, Avery suffered from PTSD. For convenience, she and Kepner both take rooms in the house of fellow citizens of Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo). Also living there is her husband, Dr. Shepherd (Patrick Dempsey), resident Alex Karev and apprentice Lexie Gray (Chyler Leigh), his stepbrother. For some time, Avery suffered from the death of his friend Percy in the shootings, and has assisted in surgery on Shepherd when threatened at gunpoint by gunners. The seventh season showed Avery's interest in Meredith's sister, Lexie Gray, and they started a relationship. Avery also started working with plastic surgery chief Mark Sloan (Eric Dane), who previously had a relationship with Lexie. She feels uncomfortable with the two men who work together and, when she later shows that she still has feelings for Sloan, Avery broke up with him.

As the fifth year of the residency is near, surgical residents, including Avery, prepare to certify their boards as they prepare for the scholarships they plan to join. The night before taking the test, Jackson and the Kepner virgin have sex. Although April regrets having broken his promise to Jesus to remain a virgin until marriage, the two have sex again during the exam period. During the exam, Avery is supported by his mother Catherine (Debbie Allen), who happens to be a test examiner.

Avery, Meredith Gray, Cristina Yang, and Alex Karev finally passed the exam, while Kepner failed. Though Avery has a real feel for her, she pushes her away because she believes that she feels guilty for having sex with her. At the end of season eight, Avery revealed until April that he took a position at Tulane Medical Center, despite feeling ill because of leaving Seattle's Grace Mercy West and behind him. As a celebration of the conclusion of their residency, former head of operations Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.) held his annual dinner for them. The eighth season ends with Avery, Karev, Kepner, and Webber waiting for Meredith and Yang. They are victims of a flight accident in which Lexie Gray and Mark Sloan eventually die from their injuries.

After the accident, Dr. Avery remains at Seattle Grace and continues his work in plastic surgery. She and Dr. Kepner resume sexual intercourse, though April is agitated and believes she is pregnant. When he tells Avery, he proposes to her and she accepts, anticipating a happy marriage. But the pregnancy was wrong and the couple broke up before announcing their engagement to the staff. As a means of avoiding each other, the two doctors decided to each bring a date to the wedding. Bailey to choose this date for each of them, both of whom are apprentices.

After the marriage, Avery had sex in her car with her date, apprentice Stephanie Edwards (Jeremy Hinton). Shortly afterwards he told Kepner about the incident, and he thanked him for his honesty. It implies that Avery still loves Kepner when he turns to him to ask for dating advice and he shows jealousy. They rebuild friendships. When the hospital faced a financial crisis, Avery's mother, Catherine agreed to invest in the hospital through the Harper Avery foundation; but he insisted that Avery would become chairman. The council (on Avery's suggestion) later renamed the hospital as the Gray Sloan Memorial Hospital. Kepner was engaged to Matthew but at their marriage, Avery stood up to declare his love for her.

Kepner chose Avery, and they ran out of weddings together. (This scene is reminiscent of what was recorded in the movie The Graduate.) When Kepner regretted his decision, Avery proposed to him and they eloped. They keep marriages secret from other hospital staff, as there are new regulations that limit relationships among staff. Avery's ex-girlfriend, Stephanie, feels deeply betrayed for how she left him. Catherine Avery is unhappy about her son's marriage with Kepner, as she failed to make prenuptial agreements to protect Avery's family fortune. They made up after Kepner signed such an agreement.

Jackson and April soon reached a major problem when they realized they had different views on the way their children were brought up in relation to religion. Immediately after their fight, April realizes she is pregnant. Babies April and Jackson were diagnosed during pregnancy with Osteogenesis Imperfecta type 2, and learned that the baby will not last long after birth. Jackson believes that disconnection is the best option, but April prefers to have a baby, knowing it will not live long. They scheduled the induction for the next day, at the start of the appointment they were asked to sign their infant death certificate, which is too difficult for the couple to bear. April did not sign the papers and went back to work the same day praying for miracles, while at work she had a heart to heart with a woman who lost her fiancé the night before. They decided to deliver the baby through termination of induction at 24 weeks of gestation after being baptized at the time. She gave birth to Samuel Norbert Avery and she died shortly after birth.

In the 11th series of finals Kepner tells Avery that he will go with Owen Hunt to serve as a trauma surgeon in the Army; it will help him grieve for their son. Avery let him go and wondered how he could cope with his own sorrow. After a telephone discussion via Facetime, Kepner informed Avery that he was extending his service time. Gunshots and explosions were heard in April's base camp, making him quickly end the call. On Valentine's Day, Kepner returns to the hospital, where he and Avery embrace on the porch. In season 12, their marriage begins to fall apart and they become alienated. In episode 11, they filed for divorce. After their divorce is over, Kepner reveals that she is pregnant with Avery's child.

Development

Casting and creating

In February 2009, Michael Ausiello hinted at the possibility of a central character, Meredith Gray (Ellen Pompeo), having another brother. The series has released casting calls for actors who can graduate as biracial; casting postponed until season six. Williams' casting was announced at the end of August 2009. Although the name was not given, the character's bow was expected to take several episodes. Williams described her audition as "a simple process." She gets the information on her birthday, August 5, and goes the next day to read for the role, although she does not know what part she's following. Williams knew he got the job a week later. In late 2009, casting calls for young Ellis Gray (Kate Burton) and young Richard Webber (James Pickens, Jr.), which will appear in flashbacks, sparked rumors that Avery could become Meredith's half-brother. Williams then shot down rumors, saying that Meredith would notice if her mother was pregnant. Matt Webb Mitovich notes Williams's absence from "Seattle Grace: On Call" "webseries as a sign of a great plan for the characters.

In the episode, "Perfect Little Accident," which aired on March 4, 2010, Avery was revealed to be the grandson of the legendary Harper Avery (Chelcie Ross). Shonda Rhimes hinted at the possibility of Williams and his co-star Sarah Drew becoming a regular customer in his blog post about the end of the season in May 2010. Williams's promotion was finally confirmed in June 2010.

Characterization

The character profile on the official ABC site describes Avery as "hardworking, pushy, jelly" and "passionate". However, sometimes, Avery can be overconfident and "too competitive," and very "stubborn." He has a habit of teasing his coworkers. Williams revealed to Essence.com that her character is very "ambitious, she does not take sides or deal with any drama, she is there to work and not really involved in pettiness." He described the character as more "arrogant," and brave. Matt Webb Mitovitch described Jackson as having a "sense of entitlement," while Williams described Jackson's attitude as "pride." Because his work environment is so competitive, Avery acts as if he belongs and refuses to second guess himself. Upon arriving at Seattle Grace, she is "a kind of thoughtful surgeon." He feels he is a "raider" on the new team and "he decides to face it aggressively and not avoid it and show his personality He is very confident and likes to say what's on his mind." Williams also said: "Jackson is more than one wolf, he is not really built to find support and shoulders to cry." "He's always trying to make it himself, Jackson does not want to live off his legacy and his name, which is also against his desire to be close to his mother."

Relationships

Jackson soon clashed with Cristina Yang (Sandra Oh) because of their competitive nature. The direct tension between this duo leads to speculation about a potential romance. Yang and Avery compete for the same case, and in the episode, "Invest in Love," for the first time, Jackson watches Cristina take over the situation, and she admires it; he looked at her differently. At a party, when Jackson is a little drunk, he opens up about how exciting he finds Cristina and kisses her. Jackson is unaware of Yang's relationship with Owen Hunt (Kevin McKidd), so his appeal is natural. Williams is not worried about fans of couples who hate his character because he understands that fans should not like Mercy Westers; Jackson was at the enemy camp and "had to take his lump." Williams said the kiss was "a crime that is strongly associated with passion." That kiss has no immediate effect on the romance of Owen and Cristina and it remains a secret. Jackson and Cristina developed a kind of mutual understanding because they tend to encourage each other to get better.

Speaking of Jackson's past relationship with Lexie Gray, Williams said: "She tries to be safe and wise and does not deal with women, really, when she first focuses on the transition to Seattle Grace from Mercy West." She keeps her head down, gets her job. done and not stuck with a banging nurse or anything, but she can not help herself with Lexie once they get close, she really falls in love with her, She makes herself vulnerable maybe to the most unavailable person in the hospital, because she knows that he has a long-term relationship with Mark.He knows he should not be heading in that direction, but he defies his better judgment and burns it up. "" They're both suckers for love [...] they both get caught up in their own momentum [...] he's all about the work and pressure of his grandfather but then he's fascinated with this platonic relationship.Avery can not refrain from Lexie. "

At the end of the eighth season, April and Jackson's friendship evolved into an intimate relationship: "I think they will be able to walk on the line of staying on the side of friendship thing." What they have is a truly unique and organic type. In the world Gray's Anatomy - the two sexes in a truly platonic, healthy, fun and productive relationship/friendship Who should say that should end? "In the ninth season, Jackson started a relationship with apprentice Stephanie Edward. Williams gave his view: "It was a fun, light, and ties-free relationship He's cute He's funny They are not stopped by the big ideas of each other Jackson declares his love for April at his marriage to EMT Matthew: They marry and have but he died shortly after birth. Liked and searched for a destination, April switched to the army and went on tour with Owen, leaving Jackson at the Gray-Sloan Memorial several times, Jackson gave an ultimatum in April that if he did not soon return to Seattle , their relationship was over in April not coming back soon, and when finally, Jackson felt that April disrespected his need in relationships, especially after the loss of a child Both tried to make it work but eventually came to the decision to end their marriage April found him pregnant on the day of their divorce proceedings, but did not disclose this until the set ah paper has been turned on.
