When artificial sweeteners became widespread in the early 1960s, the formula was changed to use saccharin instead of sugar, and Sugar Free Trident was introduced in 1964 with the slogan "Great Taste Good for Your Teeth." The American Chicle Marketing is one of the first national campaigns to promote dental hygiene through chewing gum.
For many years, Trident was promoted with the slogan, "Four out of five dentists surveyed recommend unsweetened candy for their patients who chew gum." This slogan is believed to have been based on the results of a dental practice survey with DDS or D.M.D. degrees, apparently done in the early 1960s, whose patients included frequent users chewing gum; the percentage of respondents to the survey whose response indicates that they will make the reference to their patients is believed to be around 80%, rounded to the nearest full percentage point, of the total number of respondents. It became closely related to the Trident brand. However, in mid-June 2014, Kraft Foods group Cadbury Adams, whose parent company, Mondel? Z International, has been the owner of Trident copyright and patent, is not known to have made public disclosure of any details about the survey. , perhaps citing the proprietary nature of the survey data and the conclusions as the reason.
In early 2000, "See What Opens" became the new slogan for this brand.
Trident sugar contains sugar xylitol alcohol, known as "tooth-friendly" sugar. The use of chemicals has become controversial, as it is very toxic to dogs.
