Photorejuvenation is laser skin treatment, intense pulsed light, or photodynamic therapy to treat skin conditions and eliminate photoaging effects such as wrinkles, freckles, and textures. Laser coating

Laser resurfacing is a laser surgery technique that separates molecular bonds. It is used for the treatment of wrinkles, solar lentigenes, sun damage, scar tissue (acne scars and surgical scar), stretch marks, actinic keratosis, and telangiectasias. Can be combined with liposuction to help tighten and smooth the new contours after removal of excess fat. Resurfacing can be ablative, which vaporizes tissue and creates wounds, or non-ablative ones that keep the skin intact. When compared to chemical skin, dermabrasion or any other form of treatment, the laser allows the surgeon to adjust the surgery not only to each patient but also to any facial area.

Laser resurfacing is usually performed with a 2940 Erm YAG laser or a laser 10,600 NMO 2 . The first complete coating is done with a CO 2 laser. Both Erbium and CO 2 are used to treat deep rhytides, sun damage and age spots. Through deep dermis heating, fibroblasts are stimulated to form new collagen and elastin which help increase turgor and thickness of the skin. Various modes have been developed including Nd: Yag lasers and plasma devices. Coating of CO 2 has been shown to have an increased risk of hypopigmentation and scarring than erbium lasers. This is due to the high level of coagulation and thus the heat production that occurs as the nature of the CO 2 wavelength.

Fractional laser photothermolysis (FP) is another form of laser coating commonly used today, with multiple devices on the market. Fractional lasers give small dots of laser light to the skin. Hundreds or thousands of laser dots can be used per square inch, leaving healthy skin between the diablated areas, to allow for faster healing and lower risk. FP can give the same result as CO 2 laser coating without risk of significant scarring or downtime. The complications observed in the 961 treatment study included acne outbreaks and herpes and were temporary. There is, however, anecdotal negative notes of poor scarring and hyperpigmentation without infection findings. Erbium and CO 2 fractional systems have better safety profiles than past lasers.

Intense pulsed light

Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) uses the flash to produce high-intensity light over visible wavelengths and wide infrared filters that select the desired range. IPL is used to treat dyschromia, rosacea, melasma, acne, photodamage, vascular and pigmented lesions, and rhytides.

Beginning in the late 1990s, a number of studies have been conducted to evaluate the safety and effectiveness of IPL on removal of wrinkles and skin rejuvenation. One study conducted by a group of four researchers from Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in 2004 found IPL to be a "non-invasive, non-ablative method to rejuvenate photoaging skin with minimal side effects".

Studies have noted that exposing cells to direct heat may cause DNA damage not only in those cells but also around tissues that are not directly exposed, and concluding treatments can cause microscopic thermal injury and more research is needed.

IPL has become a popular and effective treatment for pigmentation and telangiectasis, but has a lower yield for wrinkles. The procedure is fast, safe, and well tolerated.
